Celebrating the 101st day of school with a "101 Dalmations" theme made learning fun for our 1st graders. They incorporated a variety of educational activities that were themed around the number 101 and Dalmations, fostering both numerical literacy and creativity. First graders are in the early stages of understanding numbers and counting. Finding 101 Dalmations throughout the room and writing 101 numbers is a practical way to reinforce their counting skills, numerical identification, and writing. This activity turns the abstract concept of numbers into a concrete, visual journey, making it more relatable and understandable for young learners. Writing 101 words can expand their vocabulary and deepen their understanding and ability to use new vocabulary, enhancing their communication skills. Dressing like Dalmatians encourages creativity, imagination, and social interaction. It's a playful way to engage students' imaginations and encourage them to step into the paws of a Dalmatian, exploring the world from a new perspective. Kudos to the 1st grade team for their creative approach to learning!

Over the past 4 weeks, Ms. Erickson's 3rd graders have embarked on an incredible literary journey with Malcom Mitchell's #ReadBowl, turning pages into yards as they dived into the world of books both in the classroom and at home. With each story explored, every chapter devoured, these young readers have showcased their dedication and passion for reading. They've tracked their reading minutes diligently, seeing them climb higher every week, culminating in a staggering total of 42,593 minutes read! That's over 700 hours immersed in adventures, mysteries, and tales of wonder. A huge round of applause for our 3rd graders! In Ms. Bakker's class, students delved into the inspiring biography of Helen Keller! Despite being deaf and blind, Helen Keller triumphed over challenges, mastering sign language, Braille reading, and even letter writing—showcasing incredible hard work and perseverance! To bring this lesson to life, students got hands-on, creating their names using Braille symbols and adding a tactile touch by gluing dried lentils to the page, mimicking the Braille experience. What a fantastic way to learn and celebrate the remarkable achievements of a true role model!
