MPS Letterhead: October 2025 Dear Mora Public Schools Parents and Guardians, Minnesota winters can make school schedules unpredictable. Our top priority is always student and staff safety when determining late starts, early releases, or school closings. The first three (3) weather-related school closure days will not be made up by students. When inclement weather occurs, we carefully consider multiple factors to make the safest and most timely decision possible. We recognize these changes can disrupt family schedules and we appreciate your understanding and flexibility. Please remember that, as a parent or guardian, you always have the final decision regarding your child’s safety and attendance. Possible Weather Decisions School on Time – Buses can travel safely. Two-Hour Late Start - Buses pick up two hours later than normal. No morning Mustang Care. Elementary classrooms open at 9:55 a.m.; class begins at 10:10 a.m. All-day preschool starts at 10:30 a.m. (no morning half-day preschool). High school classrooms open at 10:00 am; class begins at 10:10 a.m. Early Dismissal – No afternoon Mustang Care. After-school activities and practices are canceled. School Closed – No Mustang Care or after school activities. First three (3) school closures - school days will not be made up. E-Learning days begin on the 4th–8th school closures. E-Learning Days are instructional days that occur when school is closed due to weather. (More information on E-Learning to follow). If school is closed or delayed due to weather, families will receive a phone and/or email notification through our district’s mass communication system soon after the decision is made. Please ensure your contact information is updated in ParentVUE or contact your student’s building office to ensure your contact information is up to date. . Notifications - Closure information will be shared through: School Communication System - Phone call, text message, email. TV: Channels 4, 5, 9, 11 Radio: KBEK, WCMP, WCCO Online: www.moraschools.org Facebook: facebook.com/MoraPublicSchools Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work to keep our students safe. Respectfully, The Mora Public Schools Administrative Team

Good Afternoon Mora Public Schools Parents and Guardians,

MPS Letterhead: Subject: URGENT Transportation Notice: Potential Morning and Afternoon Bus Route Delays Dear Parents and Guardians, We want to inform you of an ongoing challenge currently affecting our daily transportation services. Mora Public Schools is currently experiencing a significant shortage of substitute bus drivers. In full transparency, this shortage means that if even one of our regular drivers is unable to drive due to illness or an emergency, it may leave an entire route temporarily without coverage. Currently, our pool of substitute drivers is limited and may not be able to fill unexpected absences immediately. In these situations, we may need to implement a "double run" for both morning and afternoon routes. This means a driver will complete their scheduled route and then return to cover the second, uncovered route. What this means for you: Morning Delays: If your bus is delayed, the replacement bus will be approximately 45-60 minutes delayed. Afternoon Delays: Students on the delayed route may need to wait at school after dismissal until the driver finishes their first route and returns. Please rest assured that our team is committed to managing these challenges safely and efficiently to get all students home as quickly and safely as possible. We understand the inconvenience this may cause and sincerely apologize for any disruption to your family’s schedule. We are actively recruiting and training new drivers to address this shortage. We will notify parents via our school notification system immediately upon confirming a driver’s absence. Please monitor your text or email notifications closely for updates. Please ensure your contact information is up to date in the ParentVUE app or by contacting your students building office. Your patience and understanding during this time are greatly appreciated. In addition, if you know of anyone interested in becoming a school bus driver, please contact us at 320-679-6230. Thank you for your continued support. Sincerely, Chip Brandt Director of Transportation Gayle Stassen Transportation Assistant

The Magic Milk experiment is a great way to introduce scientific concepts of predictions, observation, and drawing conclusions. The Magic Milk Experiment surprised students when they saw colors swirling towards the edge of the plate as a result of putting a single drop of dish soap into the milk with food coloring. We tested out different color patterns and observed what would happen if we swirled the dish soap throughout the milk.

September is Minnesota School Board Recognition Month — a time to honor the dedicated individuals who serve as the guiding light for student success in our public schools. School board members in Mora School District serve countless hours to ensure our public school students have access to high-quality learning and extra-curricular opportunities that prepare them for a bright future.

We are proud to recognize the members of the Mora School Board (pictured left to right): Superintendent Dan Voce, Board Chair Amy Schultz, Member Jill Koch, Vice Chair/Treasurer Ken Mattson, Board Clerk Dakota Helmbrecht, Member Matthew Heggernes, Member Moe.

This September, we encourage everyone in our community to take a moment to thank a school board member. Their commitment and service are essential to strong schools, vibrant communities, and the foundation of our democracy — public education.
