Bullying Prevention
At Mora Public Schools, the well-being and safety of our students are at the heart of our mission. We believe that every child deserves to learn in an environment where they feel valued, respected, and safe. To that end, we are committed to preventing bullying, and we want to partner with you to make sure all students thrive in a safe and supportive learning environment.
Each of our schools has a variety of programs and lessons in place to help students build positive relationships with each other and with school staff. This work emphasizes kindness, empathy, and respect. It helps our students become part of a community and practice essential life skills of living and working alongside people who have different backgrounds and personal characteristics.
What is Bullying?
Bullying means behavior by an individual student or group of students that:
Is repeated or forms a pattern;
Is intimidating, threatening, abusive or harmful;
Involves an actual or perceived imbalance of power in which the student being bullied has difficulty defending him or herself;
May take many forms—physical, verbal, social, or even digital (cyberbullying)
Bullying is intentional, harmful behavior repeated over time, where one individual uses power to hurt or intimidate another. By understanding what constitutes bullying, we can better identify, respond to, and prevent it.
How Do We Respond to Bullying?
Although our goal is to eliminate or reduce bullying, we know that bullying does still occassionally happen in our world today. Our school uses a comprehensive approach to prevent and address bullying. Teachers and staff are trained to recognize signs of bullying and intervene early. When a bullying incident is reported, our team responds quickly to intervene, takes appropriate action, and offers support to the affected students. We also believe in holding students accountable while focusing on restorative practices to foster empathy, improve relationships, and prevent further incidents.
How to Report Bullying
We encourage all students, parents, and community members to report bullying if they see it happening. Reports can be made by speaking directly to a teacher, school counselor, or administrator. Additionally, we have a bullying reporting form at our schools, so students who may feel uncomfortable speaking out directly can still make their voices heard.
How Can You Help
Preventing bullying is a shared responsibility that involves everyone in our community. Here are some ways you can contribute:
Model Kindness and Respect: Show students what respectful behavior looks like by modeling kindness, empathy, and respect at home and in public.
Talk Openly About Bullying: Have regular conversations with your children about their school experiences and friendships. Encourage them to speak up if they or someone they know is experiencing bullying.
Get Involved in School Activities: When parents and guardians engage in school events, programs, and volunteer opportunities, it helps to strengthen the sense of community and connectedness, which reduces bullying behaviors.
Promote Empathy and Conflict Resolution: Help children understand the importance of empathy, and teach them how to resolve conflicts in constructive, nonviolent ways.
Together, we can create a positive, respectful environment where all students feel safe. Thank you for your continued support and involvement in this effort. If you have any questions or suggestions about our bullying prevention strategies, please feel free to reach out to us. Let’s work together to make our school a place where every child can learn and grow without being bullied.
