Mathletes earn perfect score image

The Mora Junior High Math League’s season ended on January 26th. This year, Mora had three scoring teams of 7th and 8th graders who competed in a mixture of five in-person and virtual competitions. After having a full virtual season last year, it was great to be able to get together in person for three out of five meets. Beginning in October, the students met every Monday before or after school to practice. Mora placed 2nd and fourth out of six complete teams this year, with scores based on cumulative team points throughout the five competitions. Mora had 21 students competing, a minium of 6 per team.  This is the sixth year in a row Mora has had more than one team. Three students placed in the top 10 individually, with one of our very own earning first place overall! 7th grader Jonah Rue edged out a close North Branch competitor by 2 points (88 to 86). Torsten Stenberg (7th gr) placed seventh, and Chase Axtell (8th gr) received 8th. Students received a medal and certificate for their top-10 finishes. The 2nd place team also was awarded a trophy. The junior high math league is coached by Michelle Ostien.
